Inside the Room: A Night of Shamanic Energy with Shaman Usher

We were on our feet, dancing, chanting, calling in spirit energy, and moving together for nearly thirty minutes. If you were there, you already know exactly what we're talking about.

Last week, we hosted a truly unique evening, certainly unlike anything we’ve had at The District House: an immersive session on Shamanic Energy with Abhay Oyun, known to our community as Shaman Usher. What started as a talk became a full-body, full-room ceremony, and by the end of the night, people were calling it out loud, an entirely new kind of experience.

Host Hannah Jo opened the floor, and Shaman Usher took the muse and ran with it, turning what could have been a straightforward conversation into a living ritual. He speaks only Russian, so his live translator sat and stood beside him the entire night, carrying his words into English in real time. So much of what happened spoke in a language of its own: rhythm, breath, and motion that everyone in the room understood together.

Drumming. Chanting. Singing. Calling in. Moving. The room filled with sound and rhythm, and all together, people joined this ceremony unfolding before our eyes. We moved as one: dancing, breathing, chanting alongside the shaman, feeling something electric and shared. People described a sense of connection to their ancestors, to each other, and to what one member called "the grand oneness of the universe." That's shamanic energy as Abhay teaches it, direct contact with the planetary spirits and the ancestral wisdom that shaped this practice over 35 years of ceremony, healing work, and travel across the world.

And then came the moment we will always remember: Shaman Usher stepped up onto his chair and jumped down, barefoot, into a bed of broken glass.

Each movement carried purpose and was a demonstration, a living illustration of the protection he carries and the energy he says gets called into a space during ceremony. ‘Intense’ scratches the surface, and ‘wild’ feels too tame a word. It was the kind of moment that reorders what you thought was possible in a room full of strangers on a Wednesday night, and it left the space charged with an electricity that's still felt the next week.

By the time the ceremony settled and the energy shifted toward conversation, the audience arrived with real questions. About planetary influence on health, on relationships, on shamanism, on the small daily decisions that shape a life. Abhay answered each one through his translator, patient and direct, treating shamanic energy as something meant to be felt and worked with, applied to real life rather than studied from a distance.

That's the throughline of his whole practice. This is once secret lineage knowledge, passed down from master to student inside an ancient tradition of Siberian shamanism, and he's chosen to bring it into a modern, accessible language for communities here in America. His students call him a Master of Energy. Spend even one night in his presence and it's easy to understand why, there's a stillness to him even in the middle of the most intense moments, and a sense that everything happening in the room carries real weight.
